Brief:
The problem with today's gardening/planting products is that they're packaged in plastic and lack environmental labels, which makes it difficult for consumers to make sustainable choices. In addition, the packages are large and heavy, which makes them difficult to carry and store. The mission for my brand, based on the results of my written dissertation and UN's global sustainability goal number 12, sustainable consumption and production, and 13, combating climate change, is to design and package gardening products with the environment and user-friendliness as it's main focus. The aim of the brand is to make it easier for those interested in everything plants and gardening to make sustainable consumption choices.

About Jordnära
Jordnära, which is Swedish for 'down to earth', represents the brand's focus on the earth and plant health, as well as the fact that the products are produced in Sweden. The excessive use of plastic packaging within gardening/planting brands today contributes to the fact that something as close to nature as cultivation can have a negative environmental impact.I have therefore created the brand Jordnära that focuses om reducing the use of plastic packaging. The way in which this becomes possibleis by dried soil that the consumer can dampen before use, and to sell plant nutrients in solid form instead of liquid. Jordnära wants to help consumers grow more sustainably. The brand's visual identity is colorful yet elegant and is inspired by the Swedish summer.
About the project
This was the result of my Bachelors dissertation in design. It started with a lot of research into the subject of how design can be used to promote a more sustainable consumption pattern. The scientific essay focuses on the lack of sustainability in the gardening industry and how brands communicate on their soil-packages today. Based on that I developed ideas and prototypes for my own gardening/planting brand with its main focus beeing on sustainability. The whole essay can be read here. Following the developing of the brand and packages, Jordnära was a part of a exhibition at Kulturmagasinet in Sundsvall where I got to pitch my project.
